Well, here is the new member of our family! We welcomed Charly into the Whyte family on Friday, April 17th....and thought we were going to lose her on the very first day!!! She is about 8 years old, very overweight and has hip problems. She had had a bladder infection before we got her and was suppose to have had a re-check on April 14th. Her owner passed away on Easter(the 12th), so she never got in to see her vet.
We decided a few hours after we brought her home, to make an appt. for her ASAP. So, we took her to our vet at Petsmart and they checked her out. They had to poke her bladder with a needle(something that they do all of the time) and soon after she began bleeding vaginally. She has a scar to show that she has been fixed, so they were very confused as to why she was doing this. She spent 3 hours bleeding at Petsmart, then overnight at the ER vet, then back to Petsmart the next morning. About 3pm, she finally stopped bleeding. So, 20 hours and about $500 later, we were able to take our "new" dog home. Though we spent a LOT of money, we didn't want to have to put her down. Poor Justin had to tell Charly's owners' daughter what had happened that day at her dad's funeral. We are really glad that she is okay! God was really on our side. Though $500 is a lot to lose in one weekend on a dog that is barely your own, we were very blessed. The ER vet's husband is the Sheriff here, and she waved a $70 exam fee from our bill(she gives officers discounts). The ER vet also had to call the surgeon to see if they thought they needed to open up Charly, but thankfully the surgeon didn't have any reason to. It's $1,000 just to have the surgeon walk in the door! We have Callie on a wellness plan at Petsmart and decided to put Charly on one when she went in for her visit. In doing that, we ended up getting a $15 discount to sign her up, since Callie is on it, too. Our plan covers exam fees, some of the tests, and all the observation time she spent at the vet's. We saved $2,300 in the two days that she was there. And if she hadn't stopped bleeding on Saturday, they wouldn't have been able to release her, so she would've gone back to the ER vet. Whew! We are really thanking God for taking care of her! We are so glad to have her, though we are still reminding Aiden that the dog's name is Charly(he calls her Larly) and not Abby. :)
There's still plenty of confusion in what happened with Abby for poor Emily. She told her cousin Alyssa that Abby is sick and sleeping at the vet's. When I told her no, she said, "oh, Abby's all better?!" Please pray that we find a way to gently tell my 3 year old about what has happened!
