goodbye, kindergarten; hello, fifth disease.

emily's last day of school was on wednesday.

she's officially a first grader!

while she was at school,

her brother was making the most of his

last day without his sister home.

he has missed her tremendously.

i was typically asked "are we going to get emily from

school soon?" about 5 times each school day.

makes for a long year.

we didn't take his photo with the board on

his last day of school,

so i decided to make up for it with these

fun shots.

he's been saying "kindergarten, here i come!" for at

least two weeks.

when school was FINALLY out,

we picked up the girl and took a few photos

in the school yard.

i love that emily has been able to go to school with her good friends, and am so thankful that my little nervous, panicky boy will know someone at his big school next year, too.  i also love how aiden towers over sawyer. :)

after school, i let emily pick a special dinner place.  she doesn't pick cheap places, either.  pizza hut it is.

she was pretty excited to see this when she got home.

don't mind the missing paint.

the boy got bored about 2 wks after justin left

and peeled the paint for me.

he was so excited to "ka-whatty" it down.

 we knew that school ending was just the calm before the storm.  emily's had a little storm brewing for over a week now.  she's had these red cheeks and red, itchy arms, which we thought was a sunburn, an allergic reaction due to her sheets being washed with a different detergent, or a sun rash.

however, none of those were as fun as what she really has:

fifth disease.

did you just said, "what? what's that?"

i know i did at the doctor's office.

fifth disease name comes from it being the fifth disease found to cause pink-red infectious rash,

following after scarlet fever, measles, rubella & roseola.

however, fifth disease only does what you see in the photos, along with a possible low grade fever.

it's viral.

all she can take is benadryl for the itchiness.

the best part is the paper i got on it says that they can return to school after the red cheeks go away

cause she's no longer considered contagious.

great.

she was at school that WHOLE time.

you're about to have!

when i took her in on friday, it was because we found this rash EVERYWHERE.  it was no longer on her cheeks or tops of her arms, but everywhere else on her body.  the dr said this was the latter end of it.  this stuff can be about for 1-3 wks, but she's completely fine.  it gets brighter when she's hot, out in the sun, taken a warm bath.  50% of exposed kids will come down with it in 10-14 days, so aiden will probably get it, too.
