surprise trip.

last week, my friend from my high school in tulsa, mentioned that he was currently in tulsa with family until this week and would be deploying soon after that.
he & i haven't seen each other since the summer of '97, so i wanted to get to tulsa and see him before he left for deployment.

the only thing was, i didn't tell him i was coming.

i got ahold of his mom and sister, set up the plan and surprised him at breakfast yesterday.  i loved how shocked he was when i told him we came down just to surprise him.

[as always during an important visit, i didn't get many photos. ugh.]
not only did justin and i have breakfast with nick, we also spent the time chatting it up with his wife(congrats again on the new bun in the oven!), little boy, his parents, sister & brother-in-law.

of course, to his family i'm known as "derk".

that's what nick always called me in high school.  after reading the comic, 'calvin & hobbes', he decided that i reminded him of one of the characters, 'susie derkins'.

she was always getting calvin in trouble at school and proving him wrong,
which is pretty much what i did our whole sophomore year at union. :)

more importantly, jus & i got to hang out with nick's son.

oh. my.

he is the cutest almost 2 year old you will ever meet.
he kept asking me to take pictures of him.
love that kid!

after breakfast we drove over to the admiral flea market...it's like tiajuana in tulsa.

no joke.

most of it was outside, garage sale/junk yard kind of stuff.
the place was buzzing with cars and people.

these were the calmer moments there.

thanks for letting the whyte's hang out with you, vest family!  stay safe, nick!
