rainy day fun.

we're on day 4 of rain.
yesterday the kids & i took a trip to the park
to put our rain boots to good use.

they've worn them for a year now.
worth every penny.

i've also come across some free textures
and have been trying them out.
i don't know how to do them completely,
but i had fun playing with them.

home is where your heart is.

i've been missing my sailor lately and rightly so.
things have been chaotic with trying to go on vacation
and then having to cancel our trip the day before we left.
on top of that, the little girl had to
go visit the immediate care last night(tummy issues).
i've been trying to figure out when we can go out
to see him while he's still stateside,
but schedules just won't allow it.
while i'm use to him being gone, i still wish he was home.

i think my way of coping is to make posters.
he's gonna come home to all of these framed posters on the wall and think "what the heck?"
haha.
we may need a bigger house with more wall room
for the next time he leaves. :)

today i learned how to use textures in photoshop.
all by myself.
granted, there are tutorials and videos all over youtube
that i could use,
but i just don't want to.

i've been messing around with layers a lot,
and just had the thought that maybe this was
how textures worked,
so i kinda stumbled onto it.
i also looked at the photos on 'the vintage lemon' post
about textures.

i found a blog via pinterest with states and the u.s.
photo on it.
love the vintage lemon for putting those together!
you can download your own state for free here.

i used a texture i found on smashapps via pinterest,
a free font that i've had for a while called
ARB 85 poster script jan-39, as well as the font
us navy(for the boat).
they're freebies from dafont.

for some, there may be too much texture to this.
others may find the original print of the U.S. to be
perfect.
i'm a vintage girl, so i like to age things a bit.
if i never learned how to do textures, though,
i would have left it how 'the vintage lemon' made it.
loved her colors..they were exactly what i'm
putting in my bedroom right now.

thank you to the creative people that are willing to share their work.  i will always be grateful to you for giving me
ways to be creative without breaking my bank account.

so much for planning.

(i'm blogging after 10pm.  oh, well. )

this week has been the most ridiculous week.

we went from leaving for st. joe on thurs, to leaving on friday, to not going at all.

justin & i went back and forth with being concerned about possibly not getting another paycheck this week, to getting ready to talk with navy-marine corp relief, to feeling at ease because the check DID come in(so thankful), to watching the remnants of our checking account leave in a quick manner via bills & a sick dog.  however, every bill for this month is now paid(or will be as soon as the autopay goes through), and we had extra to cover the dog, which NEVER happens.

the dog was the reason we didn't get to go on our trip.  she has what appears to be the human version of the stomach flu.  in fact, if i don't wash my hands after i touch her, i could get it.  now i'm being "mom" to the dog and pushing meds and fluids. :)  she's actually being a normal dog, just with an upset stomach.  i am super grateful that i didn't have to take the kids to the vet with me.  one of my good friend's watched them for 2 hours...and her oldest locked them all out of the house during that time.  i definitely see a night off in her near future!

at least one person is reaping the benefits of us being home.  another good friend had her child's school program and asked to use my camera for it.  glad i was around for her to do so. :)
aiden has school tomorrow...only we told his teacher's he wouldn't be there due to the trip.  boy, are they gonna have a surprise in the morning! :)

just to make your day awesome.

over the weekend, karsten showed this youtube video of this girl who had just had her wisdom teeth pulled.  let me just say, she had some gooood meds.  haha.  someone was thoughtful enough to add subtitles to this video.  perfect.
watch it here.
so glad i didn't do anything like that after i had mine out!
along with the video is a clip of the girl on the ellen show.

i love free fonts.

well, i hadn't planned on blogging for a while.
so much for that plan, huh?

i've been putting a lot of the free fonts that i'm
finding on pinterest to good use in photoshop.
[i think most of my fonts are from dafont.com.
i have not had to purchase a single one.]

of course they're Navy related.

this first one is already printed and ready
to be framed in my house.
i had already blogged about it on the

we received our copy of
'the Navy Reserve' magazine,
almanac 2012 edition.
it has a big poster to hang that has all
of the ranks, pins, etc., pictured.
i've been wanting to hang my copy from last
year, but it's pretty bent up now.
now i have a new copy.
the back, however, had a small sectioned poster
with the 'sailor's creed' on it.
since i'm hanging the front,
i made my own version of the 'sailor's creed' for my wall.
i found a free font for the boats.
you type a letter and a different ship comes up.
i thought it was pretty cool and a good way to separate
each part of the sailor's creed.

week in review

i did the unthinkable.
i waited a whole week to get photos uploaded.

gasp.

that's just not like me at all. :)

so, here's some of our week.

the boy had 'space' week at school.  oh, he was in love with his astronaut helmet.  he's worn it all over.

i looked outside earlier last week and saw this.  very odd.
they were trimming trees around the power lines all week.

remember the package for the other justin whyte with the awesome accent?  the recipient sent a thank you package to us for getting the original birthday package to the correct justin whyte.  yummy cookies for us!

the boy emailed me a photo of his new uniform.
so glad i just paid $100 to expedite his old
desert camis.
he still has some patch stuff to take care of, though.
[mom, we call these his 'guacamoles',
so now you know what i'm talking about in case you hear me talk about them on the phone! :)]

the kids did some rainy day artwork today.  noah's ark and a rainbow.  fitting, huh?
em thought it was just the best day ever because we did projects.  that tells me i need to step it up and break out some art stuff more often.  i'm so bad about it anymore.

there's your partial week in review.  i'm sure the next time
i blog i will have photos from st joe, mo.  i'm so ready for some sister-in-law hang out time!

distractions.

home on a friday night,
doin' my hair by myself.

i miss 'justine'.

i wasted an $8 box of hair color.
i have a ton of grays left after coloring it.
so dumb.

we are nearing the time when jus would typically come home from one of his trips.
it's weird that he's not going to be flying in this weekend.
thank goodness for distractions.
like 4 hours of no kids.
drill.
oh, how i love drill.
i even have a parking spot at the nosc now!
i'm at the front by chief & lt. commander.
that's right!
i'm in charge!!!

oh, i received a package in the mail...
not to me, but to another 'whyte'.
the wife of the other justin whyte in town.
he's received our mail before & we've gotten his.
i called him up and left a message.
i may have to put him on speed dial.
i have never been so excited about a phone call.
well, not excited.

giddy.
like a 15 yr old.

he has an awesome accent.
my justin failed to mention that.

rude.

i am a sucker for an awesome accent.

at justin's christmas party last year,
i pulled a chair up next to a guy from liverpool
and told him to start talking cause i wanted
to hear his accent.
if only i were kidding.
unfortunately, he'd been in the states too long
and had lost a lot of it.
the only time you know he's from out of town
is when he says 'park'...it's "pahk".
jus teases him.
his wife told me that his mom had just moved here and i should talk to her because "she's fresh!"
hahaha!

seriously...
i wouldn't ever have to even see hugh jackman in
person as long as he called me up once a month
and talked to me for 5 minutes.

i love accents.
they're just fun!

alright...that's the end of my randomness.
g'night.
