i'm a terrible mom.
i hate the park.
loathe it, really.
i mean, sure it's pretty,
it has lots of fun toys,
and when no one's there at 10 am,
it's peaceful.
but i'm a playground snob.
i don't want my kids playing on the old equipment.
i want them on the new,
age appropriate playground.
unfortunately,
there are a lot of other playground snobs
that hog all the equipment,
forcing us to play on the old stuff.
blasted soccer moms. :)
honestly, playing on the old school equipment
wouldn't be such a big deal if i
were there with someone else's kid,
or even just emily.
but it's aiden.
have you ever heard the phrase
"don't beat yourself up"?
i think it's gonna be one i use for aiden.
he's a walking bruise.
he's always banged up from something stupid.
i mean, when i was a kid, i was banged up for
trying to play soccer or football with my brother.
not because i couldn't walk across the room
without tripping.
the kid walked into a shelf at the salvation army
a week ago.
he tripped about 8 times in a span of
6 houses on halloween.
he wouldn't pick his feet up high enough to walk
over curbs or steps.
he walked into a pole in the parking lot at church.
dina can vouch for it...she was there...
she heard me laugh...and then get scolded
by emily for laughing at him.
i'm sorry, but it was funny to watch.
the boy has bruises on his ear from
falling in the kitchen today!
"be careful!"
"pay attention, son!"
"watch out!"
all used on a daily basis.
with that said, you'll understand why i hate the park.
it's like a landmine for this kid.
just watching him trip by those old metal poles...
makes me gasp, my heart stops beating...
siiigh..giving myself an anxiety attack just
thinking about it.
haha.
i always feel like i should just go ahead and call
the minor emergency desk
and tell them to get their suture kits ready.
i think is his feet.
the poor kid's hobbit feet must weigh him
down or something.
(i love that boy, but he wears an extra wide
shoe...hence the 'hobbit feet' comment)
but he's finally big enough to conquer the
playground on his own.
honestly,
i'm glad that all of his accidents haven't
scared him into a bubble!
so until then, i'll let him be a free man.
as long as that freedom doesn't include an ambulance ride,
i'm good.
apparently those things aren't free.
aiden loves to swing and begs for me to push him "faster" when he starts to slow down even just a tad. i keep telling him if he'd pump his legs back and forth instead of kicking his feet like he's running in the sky, he wouldn't slow down so fast.
yeah.
i'm sure you understand how telling that to a 3 year old doesn't work.
he likes sliding on his tummy...must be a normal kid.
i use to have to tell all the pre-k kids at school to go down the slide on their bottoms. i'm sure they all hate me now for killing their fun. :) haha. i should probably make him go on his bottom, too, since his teachers will be enforcing that rule next year. i'll let them deal with that lesson when it's time.
i'm pretty sure he and 'time out' are gonna know each other pretty well, anyway.
climbing is something i never would have
let him do by himself
while being so far away from him.
he always trips and hits his face!
he's 3 and those steps some were
pretty big for a 3 year old,
but he's like 4 ft tall,
so i let him have at it.
he was so proud of himself everytime he made it
to the top. :)
the famous 'thumbs up' showed up several times. he found that he could do a lot of other things at the park that he hasn't been able to do. even more reason to believe the 'hobbit feet weigh a lot' theory. i think the coordination is there and he's ready. his feet are just too heavy. :)
glad he's ready to roam on his own. he's a lot of fun to watch.
i even let him climb up the big huge spiral slide that has resided in the same place for about 26 years.
i should know how old it is.
i use to play on it.
so glad he's big enough to enjoy the park now and i don't have to lift all 38 lbs of him onto anything or carry him around. the only time i have to pick him up is when i say "time to go home!" we haven't mastered the whole 'walking to the car without collapsing on the ground' when it's time to leave. maybe he'll accomplish that next week (you can't see me, but i'm giving a 'thumbs up' ; ) ).
