In April we had to put down our 7 year old beagle, Abby. The next day we welcomed home our "new" beagle, Charly(Abby had a tumor on her spinal cord, preventing her from walking and Charly's owner passed away from cancer on Easter). When we took Charly(8 yrs old) in for her first vet visit, she weighed 48 lbs!!! She had a hard time walking due to all the weight on her hips and panted a lot.
Tom, her previous owner, was an elderly man who kept her dog bowl full and gave her whatever food he was eating, as well. She walked around a lot with him, but the last couple of years they didn't go many places since he was battling cancer.
Though Justin has lost weight to get back into the Navy, it doesn't come close to Charly! In 6 months Charly has lost 20 lbs!! We took her in for a check-up this week and learned that she weighed 28 lbs. So much better!! She's able to jump up into the truck now, climb steps easily and unfortunately get on our couch. She gets yelled at for that. We also found out at the vet that her eyes are starting to get cloudy, like with cataracts. Poor girl.
For now we are grateful to have our playful, stubborn dog feeling like a puppy again. I still don't know how she's managed to lose all of that weight with Aiden around.
